Stream Team Projects
Volunteers are key to our mission. Keeping the river wild and scenic means having a strong connection between the river and the people who love it.
Over 75 active Stream Team volunteers lend their eyes, ears, hands, and yes, even sometimes their noses for the Westfield River. Since the 1990s, Stream Team volunteers have helped document river corridor conditions through annual Stream Team surveys. Stream surveys help us learn about the special assets and beauties of the river, monitor the condition of the river, and identify any problems. Stream surveys help shape the work of the WRWS Committee.
Numerous volunteers also follow up on issues identified in these surveys by participating in river and trail workdays and cleanups, planting native species to stabilize banks, and sampling macro-invertebrates as water quality indicators.
