Water Quality & Macro-invertebrates
Water Quality and Macro-invertebrate Monitoring
Why monitor aquatic bugs?
- They are sensitive to changes in the ecosystem.
- Many live in the river for over a year.
- They cannot easily escape changes in the water quality.
- They can be collected very easily from most aquatic systems by volunteers.
The Committee sponsors an annual Macroinvertebrate Monitoring Training in September and collects from 4-6 locations throughout the Fall. In addition, the Committee sponsors pre- and post-restoration monitoring at habitat improvements sites throughout the watershed.
